How the concrete calculation works

The net rectangular volume is length × width × thickness × quantity. After the waste allowance is applied, the calculator converts the result to cubic yards or cubic metres and divides it by the selected bag yield. Bag quantity is always rounded up to a whole bag.

Ready-mix volume versus premixed bags

Use the volume result when discussing a delivery with a ready-mix supplier. Use the bag result for small pours only after replacing the default yield with the value printed on the exact product. Bag weights do not have one universal yield.

Thickness and site conditions

This tool calculates quantity from a thickness you provide; it does not design the slab. Soil, drainage, frost, loads, joints, reinforcement, and local rules can change the required assembly. Uneven excavation can also consume more material than ideal dimensions suggest.

How do I calculate concrete for a slab?

Multiply slab length by width and thickness, convert all dimensions to compatible units, and add an allowance for uneven grade, spillage, and placement variation.

How many bags of concrete do I need?

Divide the waste-adjusted concrete volume by the finished yield printed on one bag, then round up to whole unopened bags.

How much extra concrete should I order?

Ten percent is a common planning allowance for small simple pours, but form shape, excavation tolerance, subgrade variation, access, and supplier minimums can justify a different amount.

Can this calculator determine slab thickness or reinforcement?

No. Thickness, reinforcement, joints, base preparation, drainage, and concrete strength depend on loads, soil, climate, and local requirements and should come from the project design.
